XXXL DJ profiles: JDL Quake & Microstripe

JDL Quake and Microstripe are the joint hosts of the XXXL Bass show on MuthaFM, and have done many XXXL Bass events over the years.
JDL Quake:
Juan’DL Quake (JDLQ), or simply “Quake” has been spinning in the South African DJ scene for over fifteen years. Born in the Free State he discovered and honed his true passion for scratching, turntablism and mixing throughout his school years. 

After moving to Cape Town in the late nineties, he was soon playing at exclusive events and venues performing alongside names such as: Luke Vibert /Wagon Christ, Scratch from The Roots, Cut la Roc, General MIDI, Krafty Kuts and Cypress Hill.

From versatile genre combination sets of Hip Hop, Drum n Bass, Dubstep, Breaks and even Funk Quake has has earned himself residencies in some of the hottest musical gatherings.

He has gone on to promote various events and forms part of the South African Breakbeat Alliance who hosted General Midi, Baobinga and Krafty Kuts on their SA tours.

JDL Quake also co-ordinates the World DMC DJ Championships in South Africa.

Microstripe:
Microstripe is one the handful of broken-beat female DJs in Cape Town, playing breaks, dubstep and drum n bass. You can expect to hear melodic sounds contrasted with deep dark basslines.She is a founding member of Big Love Events – hosting the Groove Projects, Sofa Surfing, and numerous other parties.
She also co-founded Sound Squad Events, which brought you the New Years Revolutions Outdoor Electronic music festivals for four years.

 

She has also DJed at and organised the Obsfest and Night Life (Long Street) festivals. While living in London, she hosted the Chix in the Mix female DJ events. Experimental audio-visual events she has hosted include the EyeAmHear series with Paul Ressel of Lark, and the Liquidfridge Ignite series.

International acts she has brought to SA include tours for Baobinga, General Midi, Wub, and Scratch from the Roots.
